- What is Wikinancial.com?
Wikinancial is a FREE website that is dedicated to help investors to get more
information for free. We are developing a community to share their picks on
stocks. The main purpose of this website is to learn and to backtest your strategy, so if you cheat by taking an advantage of the 15 minutes delayed stock quote, then the website will be useless for you and others. You won't learn something, and others think you are good, in fact that you are only a cheater.
- Where do you get all these quotes information?
We get the quotes from Yahoo
Finance database. Quotes delayed.
Delay times are 15 mins for NASDAQ, 20 mins for NYSE and Amex
- How do I start?
First you must have a username, do login to the system, and familiar with
the stock symbols. Enter the stock symbol that you want to pick in the left
corner form of every page.
- How do you calculate the returns and ranks?
Returns and ranks will be calculated several times a day during weekdays.
We combine all calculations whether your picks is for LONG (Bullish) or SHORT
(Bearish).
For LONG, we get the return by calculating: ((current price - bought price)
/ bought price) x 100
For SHORT, since we want the current stock price will be lower than the price
when we bought, then we get the return by calculating: ((bought price -
current price) / bought price) x 100,
Then we combine them all to get how big is your return.
- Why my ROI % is still minus even I have deleted my picks?
You will have to wait for the next system update to get the new number. We update it hourly during the day.
- If I delete one of my picks, will my 'return' change?
Yes. We have 2 methods of calculations. 1 is for what you currently owned, we call it 'ROI', and the other one is an overall profit and return (This calculation was started on 11 October, 2006)
- Why there is a -14.95 value on my portfolio?
Don't worry, we won't charge you anything :). That value represents the fees of picking and deleting stocks. We deduct USD 14.95 everytime you delete one of your picks.
- I'll ask you again, is this thing free?
Yes Sir! It's all about having fun and getting smart for free. Isn't that cool?
- How do you come up with all these
numbers?
For the stock prices, we gathered information from Google
and Yahoo Finance
databases. We update these information every 1-2 hours during business hours. Your profits will
be calculated by multiplying the price differences (your picked prices and current
market prices) to our default calculation which is $10,000 for each stock.
- What are these
  icons?
This icon is for LONG/BULL, that means you are expecting the stock to go up. On the other hand, this icon is for SHORT/BEAR, that means you are expecting the stock to go down.
- What happen when the stock symbol was changed or stock was no longer traded?
The price will stay at the latest market price.
- What happen when the stock was splitted?
Since Yahoo stock information doesn't provide us with stock split information, so before you remove the stock from your portfolio do let us know. We'll update your portfolio.
- Why don't you limit the number of picks?
There is no need to limit the number since this will educate some of the traders that picking stocks is just like having kids. The more the harder to maintain.
- Why don't you imitate others who give members certain amount of virtual money to play?
We assign USD 10,000 for each pick. We feel that this is the best method in buying stocks, you focus on value for each stocks bought. If you have USD 10,000 and want to buy 5 stocks, you'd better buy them in USD 2,000 each. By doing this you can keep track you overall portfolio better. This should be applied to your real stock market life.
- Is this dedicated for technical or fundamental? It seems that you only concern in technical. Why there is no news or rumors, etc.
We are not dedicated for fundamental nor technical, we provide both information. Graphs from Yahoo, Google and Bigcharts and information from Yahoo and Google. Players are encouraged to get information from everywhere. Again, this website will teach members who're active picking, selling, discussing, and sharing stocks.
- Somebody is taking an advantage of the fact that the data is delayed 20 minutes from Yahoo. It's not fair!
It againsts our terms and condition. Let us know and we'll reset his/her portfolio to 0. :)
- My portfolio looks bad, and I want to reset it as a brand new one.
You can reset your portfolio back to 0. Go to your profile page and click "Don't like what you are seeing? Reset my Profile", on the next page, you will be asked for a password if you really want to reset your profile. This reset will delete all your current holding, watchlist and ranks.
- I perform very well. What do I get from you then?
Hang on tight. Once there is enough active members and visitors, there will be a new feature on this website for that purpose.
- Why don't you calculate my earning for a day trading?
Since the main purpose of this website is to backtest your strategy, not to cheat nor to take an advantage of the delayed data from the server, we won't calculate your earning if you hold your stock for less than 8 hours.
- I still have a question(s)?
