How much do I have to invest?

 Hi all,
I am new to investing in stocks, and like the idea of putting money in the stocks.
How much is the minimum amounts of money that is worth investing in it?
If I had say just $2,000, is that worth investing?
Do people invest amounts that small?

 As far as I know, Ameritrade set a minimum deposit of USD 2,000 to open a new account. I guest there are many new investors start with that number.

Singapore
 I am with Ameritrade and they set the minimum deposit as low as $2,000, but they will charge you for administration fee or something.
To prevent administration fee, you have to deposit at least $5,000 AFAIK.
Correct me if I am wrong
